World Trade Organization (WTO) Essay Award 2017 for Young Economists (CHF 5,000 Prize)

Application Deadline: 2 June 2017.

The 2017 WTO Essay Award means to advance top notch examine on exchange strategy and global exchange co-operation and to fortify the connection between the WTO and the scholastic group. Articles must be presented by 2 June 2017.


The yearly WTO Essay Award gives a prize of CHF 5,000 to the author(s) of the triumphant paper. On account of a co-created paper, the prize will be similarly partitioned among the creators. The triumphant paper will be authoritatively declared at the yearly meeting of the European Trade Study Group (ETSG), which is the biggest gathering that spends significant time in universal exchange. The honor service will happen in September 2017 in Florence, Italy. The triumphant author(s) will get financing to go to the meeting.


The paper must deliver issues identified with exchange strategy and global exchange co-operation.

The author(s) of the paper must have or be occupied with the fruition of a PhD degree and, if more than 30 years old, be close to two years past a PhD protection. On account of co-composed papers, this prerequisite should apply to all creators. Likewise, to be considered for the honor, expositions can’t surpass 15,000 words


An Academic Selection Panel is in charge of the choice of the triumphant paper. The board contains:

Professor Avinash Dixit (Princeton University)

Professor Robert Staiger (Dartmouth College)

Professor Alberto Trejos (INCAE Business School).

Dr Robert Koopman (Director, Economic Research and Statistics Division, WTO Secretariat) is ex officio individual from the board. Dr Roberta Piermartini (Chief, Trade Cost Analysis Section, WTO) arranges the work of the determination board.
