University of Guelph can trace its origin to the year 1874 when the Canadian government acquired 200 hectares of land to establish the School of Agriculture (later Ontario Agricultural College). Later on, Macdonald Institute (1903) was established to handle certain subjects like home economics, domestic arts, sciences and so on. The Ontario Veterinary Institute which was established in 1862 was moved to Guelph in 1922. In 1964, these three colleges were joined together by legislation to form the now infamous University of Guelph. Hence, University of Guelph became a full fledged university in 1964.
