As you may have know, some countries in Europe allow international students the unique opportunity to study free in their universities. These countries include Germany, Finland, Norway and Estonia (for Estonian taught programs only).However, students studying in their countries only need to pay for their living expenses while tuition fees are catered for by the government. Estonia is a beautiful country situated in Northern Europe. It faces the Baltic sea and gulf of Finland. The capital which is Tallinn is known for its preserved old town, museums and 314m high Tallinn TV towers observation deck. Lets now look at the total cost of living for students in this beautiful country.
Cost of living in Estonia
The cost of living in Estonia for students is cheap and considered most affordable than other European countries. Your living expense in Estonia will largely depend on factors like accommodation choices, spending habit and lifestyle. A budget of €300 to €500 is enough for a student’s living cost in Estonia. Here’s the breakdown:
- Accommodation – €100 per month in student’s dormitories and €180 to €450 for a private flat.
- Food – €200 to €250 per month
- Transport – €8.63 monthly ticket
- Theatre ticket – €12 to €18
- Night club ticket – €5 to €15
- Movie ticket – €4.5 to €5.7
- Gym/fitness club – €30 to €35 per month
The admission requirements for study in Estonia are that applicants should have qualification giving access to university studies in their home country. For undergraduate study, applicants are usually required to have completed their secondary education or its equivalent necessary for higher education. Additional qualifying examinations may also be required depending on the program and institution.
For graduate study, applicants are usually required to have completed bachelor level studies and those wishing to pursue a doctoral level studies must have completed a masters degree.
Applicants who wish to study in English and whose mother tongue is not English must present a language proficiency certificate like IELTS or TOELF. A minimum score of 5.5 in IELTS and 70 TOELF (IBT) is usually required for admission.
How to study free in Estonia
Note that some programs in Estonian Universities are tuition free for students doing full time students. These programs are however completely taught in Estonian language at bachelors, masters and PhD levels.If you would rather want to study in English language, you will have to pay tuition fees which usually range from €1000 to €7000 per year depending on the program.
