If you are an international student interested in securing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at TH Köln on free tuition, then this article is for you. We will provide a basic overview of the admission requirements and how to apply. Note that this process involves a great variety of different criteria and factors.
How to apply via uni-assist
Uni-assist – the University Application Service for International Students – is solely responsible for the administrative preparation and checking of study applications for German universities. Uni-assist will determine whether you meet the admission requirements of your desired program at TH Köln and will convert your grades into the German grading system. Note that the admission decision will be made by TH Köln.
German Language Skills
Most programs at TH Köln – in particular at the Bachelor’s level – are taught in German. You are therefore required to have an excellent command of the German language to successfully master your studies.
Your documents will be reviewed and your final grade will be converted into the German grading system. Please request the recognition of your application documents and the conversion of your final grade within the application deadline and submit all required documents as officially certified copies by mail. Please also note that you may request the document review even before the online application platform opens. If your documents are issued in a language other than English, please submit a German translation by an officially recognized translator.
If you have already had your documents reviewed by TH Köln, uni-assist, a different German university or an official certification institution, it is sufficient for you to mail the results of this document review to the contact person stated in the review form prior to the end of the application deadline.
We recommend you submit your documents as early as possible. That way you will have ample time to submit missing documents in case your request is incomplete. If you have not submitted all required documents by the end of the application deadline, your application cannot be considered. You will receive the results of the document review by mail. We will automatically adjust the grade and date of your Higher Education Entrance Qualification in your online application.
Since German universities don’t charge tuition fees, international students are not expected to pay tuition fees. However, you might be required to pay negligible registration and exams fees which might not exceed 200 Euros per semester.
Cologne’s convenient and economical housing option is oftentimes a student dormitory. Kölner Studentenwerk currently has 86 student dorms with about 4,700 rooms. Note that TH Köln does not undertake the allocation of rooms in these dorms. However, to be allocated a room, please apply online on the website of Kölner Studierendenwerk . Most dorms have rooms in shared apartments, commonly known as ‘Wohngemeinschaften’ in German. Moreover, students can choose between single bedrooms with shared kitchen and bathroom, apartments, family apartments for students with children as well as rooms for handicapped students.
