The University of Texas, San Antonio
This is the largest university in the San Antonio metropolitan region, the university of Texas San Antonio has roughly 29,000 students and 158 degree programs. Note that qualified freshmen are automatically considered for the Distinguished Presidential Scholarship ($2,000 – $6,000 per year. Transfer students with excellent academic records are eligible for the Distinguished Transfer Scholarship ($3,000). Also students who are children of first generation immigrants to the USA with demonstrable financial need may be eligible for the Ann Biggs /Thelma Salazar scholarship for first generation immigrant student.
Texas State University, San Marcos
This was founded in 1903 and given the clear mandate to train new teachers for the State. Texas State University is now a major university offering 97 bachelors degrees, 88 masters and 12 doctoral degrees. Note that entering freshmen who meet the academic and residency criteria are guaranteed the Prestigious President’s Honor Scholarship ($8,000) annually or the Texas State Achievement Scholarship ($4,000 ) annually. Note that academically talented freshmen with demonstrable financial need and strong leadership record can apply for the Terry Foundation Scholarship.
Texas A and M University College Station
This is a flagship university and also the oldest-established sometime in 1876. Texas A and M university station offers more its 50,000 students access to world class research programs and the chance to pursue a dream career in more than 120 undergraduate and 240 graduate programs. This university has scholarship programs for first years who meet the scholarship criteria (first generation college student, excellent academic performance under difficult personal or economic circumstances, etc). These programs are also include: Academic Achievement Scholarship ($3,000/year), President’s Achievement Scholarship ($2,500/year). Each recipient also receives an additional $1,000 Study Abroad Scholarship.
University of Houston-DownTown
This is located in the heart of the epic city.This is one of the most ethnically diverse liberal arts institution in the SouthWest.Also, entering freshmen are eligible for the following scholarships: Lucia La Madrid Cain Endowed Scholarship Fund, Cullen Scholarship, Cullinan Scholarship. Transfer students may be considered for the following programs: Dr. W.I . Dykes Scholarship, William Randolph Hearst Scholarship, Autrey Scholarship, and the Dean’s Scholarship, which awards $2,000/year. Current UHD students with excellent academic performance and leadership qualities may be eligible for the Red Rose Leadership Scholarship ( $ 3,000/year).
Tarleton State University
Founded in 1899, Tarleton State University joined Texas A and M University System in 1917.Note that out of all the full time undergraduate students, 85% receive some form of financial aid. The university also offers institutional grants or scholarships to 35% of full time beginning undergraduates including more than 450 endowed local and departmental scholarships. The institution also offers Presidential Honors Program which provides annual scholarships of $6,000 among other benefits. TSU students are also eligible for government grant policies like the Federal Pell Grant($5,730)/year.
