Undergraduate admissions to study in Portugal are made through a centralized online system known as Candidatura Online, which allows applicants to choose upto 6 programs of their preference. In addition to submitting proof of having undergone secondary education, you’ll be required to sit an entrance examination.Public universities use the entrance exams while private ones set theirs. If studying in Portuguese(as its likely), you’ll have to polish your portuguese language.
Prospective graduate level applicants should apply directly to their universities in Portugal. Ensure you submit all required documents, including proof of previous qualifications.
Tuition Fees in Portugal
Tuition fees are not the same for all universities in Portugal as they set varied fees.It might interest you to know that public universities charge lower than private universities.Bachelor’s and Graduate fees range from $1,075 to $1,405 per year. While doctoral programs are $2,400 per year to $3,400 per year.
Visa Application and Requirements
Note that students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who intend to study in Portugal for longer than 3 years should apply for a residence permit before entering the country.This can be applied for through your nearest portuguese consulate and would require the following:
-Passport valid for at least 3 months
-A completed application form.
-Letter of acceptance from a portuguese university.
-Three passport sized photos
-Photocopy of key passport pages
-Police record of good conduct
-Copy of health insurance
-Proof of sufficient funds-either a bank statement or grant/scholarship.
Work and Study Options
Students from the EU can work for up to 20 hours per week during semesters and full time during breaks.
